Safety
Our beautiful canyon is susceptible to both fires and floods. The area’s dense brush and dry hillsides often act like tinder boxes for wildfires. These fires can move at an incredibly rapid pace, and their heat can quickly rise to thousands of degrees. One of the best emergency preparedness actions to keep these fires a safe distance from your home is to clear nearby brush. Our dry climate makes us a trigger point for floods, too, because heavy precipitation takes some time to work its way into the hard ground, leaving plenty of opportunities for fast, rushing water to build up quickly. Further, steep hillsides and canyons without vegetation provide prime opportunities for mudslides.
